I am currently sitting in a lovely, very modern apartment in the middle of Beirut in an area called Hamra. Feeling a little confused and seriously claustrophobic after the short drive from Clemenceau here. I do recognise a lot of places and streets even though I haven’t been here since 2006. The streets are so narrow, cars are parked everywhere, street vendors, women in seriously skimpy outfits, children begging or trying to sell chewing gum….the list is endless…
I really can’t imagine living around here. It totally stressed and freaks me out. What makes me so excited is the trees…there are trees everywhere…here and there…just luvvin it.
It made me sooo happy to arrive at the airport having two young men approaching us asking how they could help us. I said hmm I think I need a visa. One of them asked me what nationality I was and I told him Swedish. He smiled and said well then you can stay here for two months for free.. I didnt even have to fill a form in. God what a difference from Bahrain where the bloodsuckers are asking for 40BD a month…For what? For me to enjoy 45 degrees, checkpoints with policemen trying to flirt, sand and well not much else really. Bahrain is great in many ways but still….40BD a month. Cooome on!
Will go out to buy a simcard and some other stuff…before it gets dark. I should probably pray it all goes well..Feels like I need it.
